Globe and Mail heresy/ Online newspapers
Why did the Globe *remove* the timestamp from their articles? Don't they know how important that is?
The more I access the website redesign, the more I hate it -- it's a move away from the future of online journalism, essentially. Gah!
Also, they upped the amount of content available only to subscribers, and more than doubled the price -- only days, I might note, after I cancelled my Insider Edition subscription.
Conclusion: G&M website redesign = bad. And it used to be one of my favourites!
I like what Bob Cox is *trying* to do with the Free Press site, although it's very much based on a for-pay model -- and he said in December that he would avoid going in that direction at all costs. Hm.
My roommate Chris likes "the Independent" online, but I'm not sold -- it's not so inviting. The Tyee also does a decent job.
But why can't we get away from the paper-copy = online copy format (I'm talking to you, NYT!)? Seriously. If it was ten years ago, I'd be learning web design and layout to get ready. As it is, I know someone will figure it out, soon enough ... Or, at the very least, I hope they will.
UPDATE: CBC redesign = grand!
I still see timestamps, they're in the grey bar above the article.
